Children and young people have a range of general legal rights that are available to all people under the law. In addition, they have a range of special protections or laws that may additionally apply based on their age e.g. youth offending, age of consent, sexting and image based abuse, age of criminal responsibility, police powers, etc.
In understanding the role of law in society, students should also be encouraged to think critically about the suitability of laws and be introduced to the concept of law reform.
This module seeks to provide students with a general overview of some legal rights and responsibilities.
